Softball Senior Day Ends with a Pair of Five-Inning Wins

RALEIGH, N.C. - In Friday's Senior Day the Meredith College softball team closed out the USA South regular season with a pair of five-inning wins over the visiting Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels. The Avenging Angels took game one 11-3, and capped off the warm afternoon with a 15-3 victory.
Senior right fielder Leah Friedman led Meredith in the day's opener posting four hits in as many at-bats with a trio of RBI. Her second-inning triple gave the Avenging Angels a boost on their way to five runs in the frame.
Amanda White and Ashley Green each posted extra-base hits as Meredith outhit Mary Baldwin 14-7 in the first game on the day.
Game two followed much the same pattern as the Avenging Angels tallied 13 hits to the visitors five.
Fourth-year pitcher Amanda Beirne earned the pair of wins allowing two earned runs with 14 strikeouts and one base-on-balls.
Five Angels notched two hits in the nightcap, with White, Green and Alyssa D'Arco each earning a double in the win.
Head Coach Kim Scavone and her team celebrated seniors Lorri Cole, Friedman, Green and Whitney Williams in between games. Beirne joined her teammates as another fourth-year player closing out her collegiate career this spring. She graduated last year but returned to Meredith as a graduate student this semester to complete her final year of athletic eligibilty.
