Softball Wins a Two-Game Series Over Covenant

After scoring three runs over the course of three innings in the first contest, Lorri Cole drilled a triple to center field scoring Courtney Saunders. Katlyn Johnson sent Cole home on the next at-bat with a double to right, and Kayla Lane stepped in to score Johnson on a fielder's choice to extend the Angel lead to six.
The Scots left two runners on base in the top of the seventh to seal the 6-0 win for Meredith.
Amanda Beirne allowed no runs in five hits and struckout nine Covenant batters to earn her twelfth win of the season. Cori Hilt took the loss for the Scots.
Meredith continued the momentum in game two putting three runs on the scoreboard early.
After advancing just one batter to first in the top of the first frame, Meredith put away the next seven at-bats to hold Covenant scoreless through three frames.
In the bottom of the third, Ashley Green doubled down the leftfield line and scored on a single from Amanda White on the next at-bat. Macy Allen scored Green leaving White on second.
Cole sailed a dinger over the center field fence to clear the bases, giving Meredith a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Green hit her second double of the game and scored Leah Friedman to extend the Angel lead to four.
The Scots put a pair of runners on base in the top of the seventh inning on a walk and hit-by-pitch, and Kaitlyn Sirmons pushed them to second and third. Kendall Whann scored on a wild pitch to end hopes for a second shutout, but Beirne struckout the final batter to closeout the game in favor of Meredith.
Beirne allowed two hits and one run, while striking out four and walking three in her second complete game of the day. Hannah Rogers posted her seventh loss on the season.
