Rain Delay Forces Late Start; Softball Defeats Wesleyan 8-0

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Meredith College softball team defeated the Wesleyan (Ga.) Wolves 8-0 after a rain delay forced a late start to day-three of the program's spring break trip. A Courtney Saunders double launched a six-run inning in the fourth to push the Angels out front.

 After the Meredith defense handled Wesleyan in three at-bats in the top of the fifth, Lorri Cole led off in the bottom of the frame with a single to left field. Whitney Williams advanced on an error, and Alyssa D'Arco sacrificed to move the runners.

 Kayla Lane drilled a sacrifice fly to center to score Cole, and Katlyn Johnson crushed a walk-off triple to secure the game early.

 Amanda Beirne faced 16 batters allowing just two hits with as many strikeouts to post her eighth win on the year.
